According to reports in the Italian capital of Rome, Serie A side SS Lazio are closing in on a deal with Turkish side Galatasaray for the talented midfielder, Lorik Cana. Reports suggest that a deal between Lorik Cana’s agent and the Lazio representatives
is nearing a conclusion. It appears that the Albanian international would be Lazio’s first signing when the summer transfer window opens in June.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio have already tabled a bid of 4.5 million Euros for the 27-year-old but it has been suggested that the Italians would make an improved offer in the region of 6 million Euros should the Turkish club reject the first
bid. When asked about the deal, Lazio president Claudio Lotito said that he had given Igli Tare the responsibility of bringing the player to the club.
“He can be useful to our midfield and our defence. We need someone like Cana. He is always at the ready physically and has experience.”
However, it is thought that the Turkish giants are looking to pocket at least 8 million Euros from Cana’s transfer, meaning that club negotiator, Igli Tare, will have a lot of negotiation to do before a deal can be finalised for the transfer.
Lorik Cana is a defensive midfielder who can also operate as a defender when need arises. Although he was invited for a trial at Arsenal when he was 16, he couldn’t complete the transfer as he was denied a visa. He then signed for the Paris Saint-Germain
youth academy where he spent three years. In 2003, he broke into the first team and saw a rapid rise as he became an integral part of the team.
In his first season, Cana played 32 games and won the Championelle with the Paris-based club. In 2005, he moved to Marseille where he made 122 appearances in the next four years. His progress was duly noted by Sunderland manager Steve Bruce and the Englishman
signed the club on a 4-year contract. However, he moved to Galatasaray last summer for a fee of around 5 million Euros.
