Serie A special: Sampdoria must not commit suicide with Antonio Cassano (part 2)

Coming to the point of all this debate, Cassano has managed, yet again, to upset the club hierarchy. The fiery attacker was supposed to attend a club event. Cassano being Cassano, failed to turn up. The refusal to accept the presidential orders enraged the
club president Riccardo Garrone. The two had a much publicised war of words on the Doria training ground before Garrone left the headquarters. Many expected the player to be fined or at most, banned for a few matches. Indeed many were left in utter disbelief
when the club revealed it has applied for its talisman’s contract to be rescinded; Shocking stuff indeed.
Cassano is not short of admirers. His services are highly sought after especially in Turin where Del Neri is looking for a left sided player to line up alongside the mercurial Milos Krasic. Juventus are not the sole contenders of his signature; the Milanese
twins want to bring the player to San Siro. And now, the latest reports indicate that Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool have also joined the race. And not to forget, Manchester City have been the admirers of Bari native for far too long.
One simply fails to understand just what Riccardo Garrone is playing at. Cassano does not need Sampdoria, if anything, they need him. The player is arguably too big for the modest Genoa outfit. Cassano has voiced his desire to stay with Blucerchiati time
and time again. No matter what the reason for the argument was, Cassano is being punished way too severely. The incident was summed up in ideal words by famous football agent Claudio Pasqualin.
“Asking for the total rescission of a contract will be suicide for Sampdoria. It is an unreal hypothesis, but the arbitration panel will also want to hear Cassano's story. No matter how bad the incident was, I cannot understand why they would go to such
an extent, I think it is excessive. There are other ways such as fines or sanctions. I think it's harsh. It's like asking for a life sentence for someone who slapped another person.”
Cassano for his part has publicly apologised to the club president. However, things show little signs of improvement. Sampdoria managed to eke out a 1 - 0 away victory against Cesena last night in Talentino’s absence. Garrone was first to boast about the
result. Mr. President is adamant in believing that Sampdoria can feature well without Antonio Cassano.
Garrone looks to have his hopes pinned on Giampaolo Pazzini, a striker who clearly relishes the services of fiery Cassano. Even though Pazzo score the winner last night, just how well he would play in his absence, particularly against bigger oppositions,
still remains to be seen. However, one thing is for sure, if Cassano is forced out of the club, Garrone will be the one suffering and Cassano will definitely have the last laugh.
