Serigo Aguero a doubt for Atletico Madrid’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen
Atletico Madrid manager Quique Sanchez Flores has admitted that star forward Sergio Aguero’s participation in tonight’s match remains doubtful. The news will come as a huge blow to Los Colchoneros ahead of the club’s UEFA Europa League tie against Bayer
Leverkusen.
The forward has been struggling with injuries since last season. His constant troubles mean the forward was unable to produce his stunning best for the club while his performances for La Albiceleste were far from his lofty standards. Aguero was rushed back
to first team football by the club coaching staff against FC Barcelona for their La Liga fixture. The move however, backfired as the striker had to be taken off. Aguero was later shown on the cameras as nursing his knee with an ice pack.
The forward will now go through a late fitness test and his participation will depend on the results. In Aguero’s absence, Brazilian forward Diego Costa will start for the Madrid based outfit.

The manager has also hinted that Diego Forlan might be rested. The manager was asked who would be replacing Kun Aguero in the starting eleven, “I don’t know yet. I need to assess Aguero’s health first. Aguero is still recovering from his injury while Forlan
has played many matches”
Sanchez believes the team is capable of producing in Aguero’s absence but insisted the health of the forward was his primary concern

Atletico Madrid won the Europa league last season and the club are considered one of the favourites to win it. Sanchez however, is unconcerned by the media publicity and the ‘Favourites’ tag the club has been given. “The title that we won last year is of great
to us. The title will not act as something negative for us, it gives us immense pride that we have the title and we will do our utmost to defend it.”
With the likes of Rosenberg, Aris Thessaloniki FC and Leverkusen in the group, Atletico was expected to easily top the group. The club lost its opening fixture to Aris Thessaloniki FC away from home and the club will now look to put their title defence back
on track at the Vicente Calderón Stadium.
