What is the origin for the accounting terms Debit and Credit? taking into account that they are abbreviated respectively as Dr and Cr.

PS. I am not a student looking for homework tips, nor am I preparing for an interview...Kindly post the answer.

  2. The terms Debit and Credit have Latin roots. Debit comes from debere, which means "to owe". The Latin debitum means "debt". Credit comes from the Latin word credere, which means "to believe" or "to entrust".
