Upon turning in my application,I disclose that I was fired from job. This piece of info never came up in my panel interview and the interviewers gave me an favorable impression. My company started a hiring freeze recently, one of the interviewing supervisors stop me at work and informed me that as soon as the freeze lifted, they will send out offering letters.I've been waiting patiently (its' been 6 weeks) for feedback.Today, one of the panel interviewers called me at home and said that he noticed the discrepancy with my last employment and ask could I justify it in writing or provide references to why I was fired.Remember, this is 6 weeks after the job interview.I didn't want to lie on my resume just in case a background check made me out to be one.I have the experience and thought I was a shoo in until now.

Should I explain the firing and hope for a favorable outcome or cut my losses and withdraw my application?

  1. If you informed them that you were fired and they are asking for your justification in writing then I suggest that you write one.  However, you have to soften the reason for losing your job, but never never criticize your former employer.  You may state something that you feel will be reasonably acceptable to them.
