Question:

Serious Help needed, for life?

My parents are those type of people who are from the older generations where studying and getting good grades is the only way to succeed in life.

I have 9 cousins - they live abroad but some are my age and some are working. All of them have the same traditional goal.

The thing is - Im different and they dont (my parents) like it.

The only reason why so far Ive been doing well in school is because my Parents have forced me to study for hours and hours. Yep I literally have no social life.

The only thing Im good at is sport. And Iam discouraged for doing sport just coz Iam good at it. My relatives tell me "not to over do your sporting activities and that I should concentrate on my studies.".

My Dad keeps telling me how he "used to study tiill 4am in the night" and that sort of sh..it which is now really annoying to me.

Im in the dark here because my parents really what me to become like them like their families when I want to do whatever I want to do ( like sport - athletics really Im a mid distant runner).

Now Im quite afraid whats going to happen in Year 12 and 13 in school as my parents still havent left me alone. I dont want to lead an ordered and disciplined life to be honest.

I want to be free like my friends (who are getting good grades without their parents help btw).

What the h**l should I do?

  1. i personally believe its more important to be happy than rich, and seeing as thats the only reason people want good grades these days i would say don't worry too much about getting great grades, rather do your sport and stay healthy and fit, just make sure you don't regret it later on if you need them for a certain job!

  2. It is FAR better to make the choice to be a free spirit LATER in life AFTER you have the education to fall back on, when you get sick of having to look at every clothes tag, and every price on the shelf before you can pick up an item to buy.

Your friends are getting good grades, because they also study.  The only difference is that they do it by choice.

I know you don't like being forced, (but is that because you clearly don't choose to study?)...

You will find in life, that the more YOU take on responsibility and responsible approaches to things, the more authority figures will give you trust and independence.

When I hear someone say I want to be a free spirity,

I am reminded of all the free-spirits that are

cart-ladies pushing around their filthy belongings and sleeping under bridges.

Or others one step up that can't afford to have a nice home, and live in old rusting single-wide trailers.

So, do the studies for now.  It's actually good for you.

Live free after you have your own big fat bank account to fall back on.

    ^j^

  3. Without good grades you won't get a good job tbh, don't worry my parents moan to. Tell them to cut you some slack..say if you could have half and half..for example, let you go out and enjoy yourself but then always study throughly when it's needed or if you're confused about anything, hopefully they'll understan. If not then you're stuck with it for a while, but then after that they can't moan nomore because you're legally an adult and can find a job and not study :)

hope this helps and works out

  4. i dont push my children quite to the extent your parents do, but take 15 minutes out your day and do what i got them to do

i asked where they hoped to live when grown, and told them to look see how much a flat or house would cost them there per month, i got them to write down all the expenses they would have, gas, electricity, water, council tax, tv license, insurance, food, etc etc and to get them to total that

then i asked them to look at the jobs pages

see what jobs you need what qualifications you need to get, and how much they pay

VERY sobering reading, you have this chance to gain your qualifications and to get ahead later in life, please, re think

i urge you to do this little exercise

your parents really do have their heads screwed on, attain now and you will be able to have that chill out time later in life but earlier than your peers who goof off

you think you can do it all now? you cant, sadly something sufferes

and for you it would be your grades

  5. You do not say how old you are. (I would guess about 15/16)

In the end you have to be yourself, but remember that whilst grades are not everything they count for a lot.

Do the best you can, then you have more options before you.

You have to be super special to make a living out of sport
