  1. The people native to Alabama are the people of whom the people of Georgia make jokes.

Question: "What are an Alabama guy's last words?"

    Answer: "Hey!  Watch this!"

  2. I'm from Alabama and my experience is that it's extremely conservative. Way behind the times. Men tend to be overly macho and aggressive, women are often overly feminine and abide by strict gender roles. People tend to be very judgmental towards those that are different. I live in a college town and folks that ride a bike get screamed at a good bit for being "hippies" or g*y (only they don't use the word g*y if you know what I mean). It's a really crappy place to be g*y, liberal, athiest or anything that's not white Christian conservative.

  3. The people are friendly

  4. One generalization is difficult, because we come from a complex state with a rich history.  Our voting is conservative--we have two Republican senators and a Republican governor, but our legislature is dominated by Democrats.  We have a great deal of poverty.  We were historically a place of terrible racial conflict; now race relations are quite good.  Our winters are delightful, but our summers compound heat with humidity.

My one generalization:  We are misunderstood.

    Cheers,

    Bruce

  5. That people from Alabama, like most southern states in America, talk like hicks, they may or may not be hicks, but they certainly sound a little slow and a little dumb. Why is there no section? Hmm, even all the provinces of Canada have a section! Are you sure you're looking?

  6. They all live in relative obscurity and poverty, and are a "drive thru" for the drug trade.

Sorry... but those are the perceptions about the state and it's occupants.  We all suffer from such preconceived notions, and Alabama is no exception to that.  I can imagine what is thought of Wyomingites, too, even though there are only about 500,000 of us!

    Have a "social" day.

  7. They are 'just folks'. Meaning that they are normal working people that tend to enjoy their lives.

If you want to say 'redneck', that's fine: a Redneck is a normal working person that enjoys life, and is not concerned with impressing the neighbors.

  8. y'awl

  9. Alabama Man likes to go to the bowling alley where he drinks heavily and chews tobacco. When Alabama Man's wife asks him where he's been all night, he uses his karate-chop action to bust her lip open

  10. That we are "Laid Back".. no need to rush...

  11. I always found it a state to pass through, quickly.

  12. Take it from me, if people find out you are from a nice place, they rush in, take over and the nice is not nice any longer. So for your benefit, Alabama is bad, too hot, too many insects, people are dumb but the sweet tea is cold. By the way, if you're ever in Atlanta, rush hour is all day long.

  13. As a native Californian that's lived in Alabama I'd have to give 2 generalizations: religious and friendly.

I met people of all walks of life, races, and socio-economic and educational backgrounds. I met city folk and country folk. But every single one of them would say hello to every person they met on the street, stop to give you directions, open a door, or lend a hand.  Even if they don't care for football or never went to college they all have something to add to a good Auburn/Bama chat, and if that doesn't warm you up they'll politely switch to telling Talledega stories.

Religious: well it is the Bible Belt after all!

  14. Genteel.

On edit: It seems idiocy prevails, but I stand by my answer.

  15. that they live/came from alabama

  16. gangstaz!! :)

    **** them police!! ahahahaha
