Serious Xbox Live help?

I am getting an xbox 360 today and i really want xbox live. The problem with this is that i CANNOT get a router, and my computer is about 60ft away from my room (where xbox will be). Is it possible that i can go to Best Buy and buy a modem and just set it up in my room (there is no computer in my room)?

Getting a modem for use only in your room is not very practical.  You would need a phone jack in your room and you would have to call the company to activate it and they might charge you an extra monthly fee.  

Simply put, you might want to consider your reasons for not getting a router and get one anyway.

Get a long ethernet cable. It plugs directly into your xbox system.
