Serious earthquake question?

Are buildings that were built within the last 5-10 years strong enough to withstand an earthquake of about 6.5-7.0?

  1. most of the time yes and older buildings are being retrofitted.


  2. Most building built in the last 10 years in active earthquake areas are seismic fit.  My husband works in construction and he says that California has the best seismic regulations.  While no building is completely safe seismic fittings certainly help.

  3. Now the civil engineering codes are strict.If it was constructed as per norms you need not worry up to about 6.5 on Richter scale.

  4. It really all depends on the structure at which they were built. If you check your buildings blue prints it should show you how the building was built and let you know what it can withstand.
