I am worried about my Dad! My Grandpa committed suicide last year, he was a severely depressed person, whom I didn't know very well because he pushed everyone out of his life when I was very young.

Well, my Dad started showing symptoms of depression like 7 years ago, and is on anti depressants and he is on pain medication for a neck injury. For the past year or two, he is really acting crazy. He is starting to push people out of his life, for no reason he has anger towards people. A lot of anger. Enough that I think he might hurt someone possibly.

I am starting to suspect that he is bipolar, and maybe his Dad was too. Well, his doctor cut his pain medication in half, and he is trying to get the pain pills illegally. This is so not my Dad at all. He was a "goody two shoes" when I was growing up.

Well, what's really got me worried is that I found out that he bought a gun recently, and he carries it with him everywhere he goes! He was always the one against owning a gun, and would freak out if we ever went over someone's house when we were a kid that had a gun, even if it was under lock and key.

WTF is going on with my Dad? He is making comments that he understands why his father would want to kill himself, and scary things like that. I don't know what to do, if I try to talk to him about it, he will just get mad at me like everyone else, and not talk to me anymore. He lives by himself too, which makes it even worse. Please someone, has anyone else been through this, and what did you do? I don't want to get a phone call saying that my Dad killed himself.

  1. try   talk  to   them

  2. When a person starts behaving in ways that are uncharacteristic for them, has sudden mood swings, developing hostility and symptoms of possible violence, it is time to get professional help. These are all warning signs of serious mental illness. Don't try to take care of this by yourself, you are not trained to handle it. Talk to his doctor, and list the problems you have noticed. Contact the state mental health agency for information on what steps to take. Remember, you are not alone - nearly one in four people will have some kind of mental problem in a year. Don't sit silent. Talk to the doctor, and any other person you can find who might help.
