Serious question for religious people. ?

I'm being serious here (for a change 8-). But, really; why do you all get so upset when someone questions your "faith"?

I mean, I have fun razzing you all but I never actually get UPSET by your attitudes, I just have trouble with the way you think.

So, please, explain to me in detail why such - as I see it - nonsensical drivel is so important to you?

What makes you put the belief in an ethereal being above everything else in your life?

I never have been able to understand why so many religious people get so upset about this and why so many will even kill to support this.

Are our brains wired differently?

  1. The fact that you admit having fun razzing others about their faith, really this only shows your lack of consideration and respect for other people. Your immaturity is so obvious! Grow up and treat others as you'd like to be treated, with kindness and courtesy.

I can understand your question regarding fanatical beliefs, the overzealous who want to sweep the world with their particular brand of religion or whatever. But violence breeds more violence so you can see this is not the way to go whatever may be your beliefs.

It's my personal opinion that anyone who has no meaningful answers to life such as the atheists tend to cover up their ignorance by trivializing the subjects in discussion. They have nothing to say so they make up crude jokes and humour as a filler. I've seen it many times before.

If an atheist is content to stagnate in the nothingness of his beliefs, because nothingness is everything to him, then he should be big enough to allow others to go forward and discover the spiritual values in life which, may I emphasize here, is the progress of mankind - to become a "living soul," a reflection the finest of spiritual values in the consciousness of man. After all, man is more than clay. So let us remind the non-believers of the road ahead for all of us.

  2. I don't get upset when someone "asks a question", I do tend to get somewhat perturbed when someone is deliberately rude, intentionally quotes scriptures out  of context, even after having them explained to them, or demands respect they have no intentions of showing Christians. But as far as "killing" for what I believe; it's never gonna happen. The worst anyone may get from me is to be told what a jerk they're  being and to have to eat a little dust when I move on.

I have never told anyone they are going to burn in h**l for two reasons. One, it's my hope that no one I know or meet will burn in h**l.  And two, because the final decision on whether or not someone will isn't made until the moment each person takes their last breath and I've never actually talked with anyone at that very moment.

  3. Being religious dosent make you spiritual. Sometimes, if you are trying to ask too many questions of people who are afraid to look beyond their religion, they get scared. Their only defense mechanism is to prove you wrong and that their religion and "way to spirituality" is THE only way.

  4. I used to be wired coax...but had problems so now I'm RGB...

  5. First of all, I have no problem with people questioning my faith.  I encourage people to question their own faith.  It's a part of spiritual seeking.

However, "razzing" isn't questioning.  Razzing is being insulting and obnoxious, and I find that offensive regardless of topic.  People tend to find it more offensive when its about more important topics.  I don't, however,  find calling my gods "nonsensical drivel" anymore offensive than, say, calling evolution "nonsensical drivel".

You're making a lot of presumptions about us to insist we all put our deities above everything else in our lives.  Many of us find that sort of behavior antithetical to our beliefs, thank you very much.

  6. Is there nothing in your life that you hold so precious to you that you would get annoyed if someone mocked it?  Your family?  Friends?

Questioning and poking fun is one thing.   This message board had made me truly believe that there are atheists out there that really think they are better than religious people simply because they dont believe in God.

The logic behind this attitude is what confounds me.  Why is it that some atheists honestly think they are smarter or more logical than all other religious people on this planet simply because they dont believe in God.

We are all put in diff circumstances that influence how we think and come to our individual conclusions in life.  When atheists honestly believe that they are the only ones that have truly searched for the truth or answers its just obnoxious.

Many atheists on this message board truly dont see the hypocrisy when they nod their heads in agreement when people say how much more openminded atheists are (or any other positive trait) but then scream in protest about not generalizing when they are generalized in a negative way.

For a group of people that claim higher intelligence it makes me want to both laugh and bang my head against the wall.  Why is the double standard so hard for some of them to see?

Atheists give more thumbs down on this message board than Christians if you look at the responses to many questions that divide the groups, and then atheists will turn around and claim its Christians that cant handle hearing other viewpoints.

Its just the hypocrisy and double standard that makes me shake my head in wonder with some atheists on this message board.  How can they not see it?  It also annoys me when the same atheists that will complain about this kind of hypocrisy with Christians will turn around and act the same way and then still think they are better than Christians.

Are they really this dense or just hoping that they will be able to get away with it without anyone calling them on it?

  7. Lol, dude you're generalizing.  I don't get upset when someone questions my faith, or at least not your idea of upset.  I've never told someone that they're going to h**l just because they don't believe in the same thing as me.  I don't even believe in h**l.  I will debate with you about it a little, but I also feel like I don't need to justify why I believe in what I do.  You probably won't understand my reasoning anyways, so why bother?

And I wouldn't say I put my religious beliefs above everything else.  I certainly wouldn't kill for them, because although I have faith in them, I know my beliefs may not be true, so I don't get uptight about it.  I guess you could say my "religion" is more of a spiritual journey than anything, open-minded and free to change.

    So no, not EVERY religious person gets terribly upset and defensive when their faith comes under question.  Just the fundies do...  (;

  8. >>Are our brains wired differently?<<

Yes, so stop razzing us. We can't help how our brains are wired.

"Religious belief is determined by a person's genetic make-up according to a study by a leading scientist.

"After comparing more than 2,000 DNA samples, an American molecular geneticist has concluded that a person's capacity to believe in God is linked to brain chemicals."

  9. It is a part of who I am, as much as anything else.

My faith is a very personal and important part of me, of  who I am.

When you insult my faith, you insult me.

However, I don't get upset with you, I just pray for you.

    God grant you understanding. <><

  10. I don't mind it when people question my faith.

But I never push my beliefs on anyone.

  11. if you had to you would prove that you were or are faithful to your spouse right? That is Love and pure defense to those that want to rip it apart. So I defend my beliefs because I know what I stand for. I love God and His Word. Just because someone else is confused or questioning  does not give them the right to try and break the Faith of another.

You know what you are doing when you do it, so why ask?

  12. Think about how a kid acts when you tell him Santa or the Easter bunny is not real.

  13. I don't think they are upset. Since its the internet you can't tell if someone is upset. You may be reading a certain way, and imagine them being defensive or yelling.

  14. I get upset when people MAKE FUN of my faith because they are being sooooo immature and hypocritical.

Kinda like how atheists bite Christians heads off when they make one little comment about their precious Darwin.

  15. If you have ever felt the  presence of God you would understand. It is the most wonderful thing I have ever felt. I have seen what he has done for me and my family. You could understand what we have went through before he was in our lives. Misery to happiness. I love God and what he did for me.

I don't get angry. I just wished that when people don't believe as I do they wouldn't down me or my faith. Just like you would defend your family or something you care about, I feel that I should defend myself and my faith.

  16. Lets try shall we?

Me: I'm sorry Billy, There is no God.

Billy: WAHHHHHHHHHHHH YES THERE IS! NOW REPENT *****!

ME: It's peanut butter chainsaw in the face time.

  17. People don't get upset about honest questions usually. But if you engage in outright lies or twist verses out of context people do get upset.

Deception that causes babes in Christ to fall will be judged severely on the day of judgment. Christ made that quite clear. Old veterans like me are not going to fall for such things but God help the little ones who are just learnig to walk in faith.

  18. I don't get upset when people question my faith. The majority of my friends aren't Christians, and I'm quite used to the idea that not everybody is going to share my beliefs. Of course, nobody likes to be openly mocked, and I admittedly don't always see the great comedic achievement in belittling other people's beliefs. However, honest questions aren't a problem for me. As for "nonsensical drivel", I personally feel that one's spiritual development is one of the most important things that a person can attend to during this lifetime. If other people don't think so, that's their business. But I want to better myself in all imaginable ways, and that includes working toward making spiritual progress.

  19. I don't think we're wired differently.  I don't usually get upset.  I usually ignore you (you meaning all who would make fun of me or my faith).

As to some who would kill for their faith, I haven't even been tempted to in any way but I can see that I would easily die for my faith.  It's an unshakable thing once you've experienced it.  You just would not let go for anything in the world.  It's not a word on paper, like faith or hope or whatever, it's part of you and you cannot deny it any more than you can chew off your own right leg.

But if you want to chew off your own right leg to disprove me, go ahead!  :-)  Just no gnawing on mine!

I do see your additional details, and people just really want to wake you up.  They want you to see what they believe because it's that important.  Actually, if they didn't care about you they wouldn't get mad.

I do care, I just know I cannot change your mind about things and so it's easier for me to play nice.  If you choose to ask me what I believe and why, I will happily share, but it's not my job to change you and I cannot choose for you.

It's kind of a learning curve sometimes so go easy on people!  They really do care.

  20. I am happy that you are happy putting peoples faith and beliefs down.... I am happy that you are happy making fun of something that in a Christian's life is so important..... I am happy that you are happy that you see as nonsensical drivel , we see as the bases of who we are........ I am happy that you are happy not believing in God, you are showing your free will and exercising that will, as I am exercising mine to have the faith of who and what God is....... Nothing *makes* me put my belief in an ethereal being, I so choose to have the faith that what I have seen, heard, felt and done or has happened in my life, is NOT done by any means of human power or nature but the blessings and miracles of God, a being that I KNOW does exist .... I do not kill to support anything..... Those who kill in the name of God, might or might not be doing so, I kinda doubt it...... and NO our brains are not wired differently , it is our hearts that are !!!! go in peace....... God bless

*edit*- ooopsie, my bad, forgot to answer about the angry thing.... You do not anger me, nor does anyone else.... I find your attempts to make me angry rather pathic and childish...... *shrug*....

  21. "if  already know the fire is hot the meal is already cooked!"

  22. Presentation is everything. When you present your questions in a way that you are pretty sure will goad a reaction, you should expect one. Faith and religion are really the core of many peoples beings, so perhaps we are wired differently than you. I know that the reactions of "burn in h**l" are not the way to spread the message of Christs love to unbelievers, so do many Christians out there. I never ever say that to any one, even if they are offending my religion. I'm a Catholic, you know we get hit pretty hard in this forum too, but I always try to keep it civil in person and over the net out of respect for my antagonist because we are taught that even our enemies are made in the image and likeness of God.

  23. You get upset with our attitudes? we get upset with your constantly being rude and insulting in an attempt to get a rise out of us, of course we know you do it on purpose.
