FPL is the only electric company in FL and AGAIN the electric bill is going to go up ANOTHER 8%!! Last month it went up 16%!!! I live in a one bedroom and my electric is no less than $170. I can't afford this anymore and I have done everything I can to get it as low as possible. I've called in FPL, I'm enrolled in the on-call program, I can't do budget billing because I've only been there a few months. HELP!!

  1. turn your AC up, turn your refrigerator up, quit leaving lights on, close blinds during the day, maybe put up some window energy film.

  2. There are lots of people in your exact same boat- energy costs are soaring with the influx of gas prices. I suggest turning your A/C up at night and off during the day when at work. Make sure all of the lights are off when not in use. If your house is older look at replacement windows, doors etc. If you can't afford the windows, the only option is to conserve as much as possible and maybe look for another newer place to rent if you rent.

Good Luck tough everyone is feeling your pain.

  3. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...

    Check this out works good.

  4. Used candles are replace your light bulb with energy saving bulbs here a example http://www.heartlandamerica.com/browse/i...

each bulb uses 1/4 of normal bulbs so even thou you might think the price of the bulbs are high it will actually save you more in the long run. try not to keep the lights on as you move room to room.

to have your bill at 170 is a lot how often are you there? make sure you unplug things that you are not using like radio and stuff.

3 dogs and you have problems with your bills.. hmmm seem like your prioty are not in order.

  5. When you are out all day turn the ac off. When you get home open doors and windows and put fans on.The hot air will disperse in minutes.blast ac for 1/2 hr then  adjust to regular setting. Then please send me 50% of your savings.Good luck.

  6. I to live have a home in Florida and we're paying for the potiential Hurricane recovery Costs. If you'll notice everything starts to go up in Hurricane Season. It's just anothewr way for them to pad thier pockets.

  7. One might wish to heat to 70 degrees, but with air conditioning we can live with 80 degrees 24/7.

Cover your windows to reflect back all light, not just from the sun but from a bright sky or adjacent buildings. Uncover the windows to let radiant energy escape at night.

Use 13 watt curly bulbs and keep them turned off much as possible.

If you are going to cut energy usage most with an AC use, cool the apt to 70 about 4AM, then  back to 80... This strategy uses cool of night to make the AC more efficient. And it uses the AC only to keep temperature bearable rather than luxury cool. You may find that you will dress  lighter with 80F, and will need to remain well hydrated.

Avoid drying clothes with a clothes dryer.

  8. FPL is NOT the only power company in Florida, it may be the only one in your area, we have Progressive Energy. Everyone is going up, for about two months we had to make payments. They eventually went down, but we survived it, hang on. try flipping the brakers to stuff you don't use while at work like the water heater, change your light bulbs to energy efficient, and use you stove/oven as little as possible.

  9. I live in Florida too, and this mo. bill from Progressive is $168 for a 3 rm apt.  I guess they're afraid a light pole might fall over or something.

  10. Get a solar hot water heating system and this will reduce your bill by 30% in addition, get a small photovoltaic system to reduce your monthly electric utility bill.
