Question:

Seriously Considering Joining the USMC (questions however)

These are serious questions aimed at serious and preferably currently enlisted men of the military. If I confuse any facts, I apologize in advance, and will readily correct myself.

I am currently a 22 year old college student, about a year and a half away from graduation, and am seriously considering joining the Military, and am leaning towards the United States Marine Corps. Here are my reasons for choosing this particular Branch:

If I decide to join the Armed Services, I wish to be the best; the most disciplined, the most professional, and most skilled. And I wish to work with people of the same caliber. From my research, I have gathered that the USMC turns out a more disciplined and professional man than that of the Army. If I am wrong, please correct me.

It is my hope that once I become a Marine, that I may advance in skill and discipline. However, I have questions concerning this. Is it possible for a Marine to apply for Ranger training or any other Navy/Army SpecOps, or must he remain in his branch and persue Marine SpecOps.

I understand that I may not have what it takes to complete these training programs, however, I want to know that I at least have the Opportunity to try. I know that there is a high drop out rate for every SpecOps training program. So then, it is my wish to know that I will still be in the company of serious and professional men if I am not cut out for the SpecOps community. In other words, I wish to be the BEST, and to be with the BEST in any given circumstance.

I did not post this question in order to start an arguement. I am a young man requesting advice from currently enlisted men with experience in the subject. And if I am privelaged enough to recieve advice from members of the SpecOps community, I wish to thank you in advance.

  1. I'm not enlisted, and I can not answer your questions, but I did want to say that if you do join, thank you for having the courage to do what so many others turn their nose up at.  Good luck in whatever you do. :)

  2. Before deciding check with other services recruiters.  I do know that as of now, the Army and the Air Force will not take someone with Prior service from one of the other branches.  They did tell me that it can change from fiscal year to fiscal year, but for FY 08 that's the policy here in Georgia.

  3. First off you wish to become a Marine and your interested inn Army positions..That is not a good thing..

Second you dont mention if you wish to be an officer or enlisted. and you dont mention what you would like to do as a Marine MOS..

First you must become a Marine and put all that special ops c**p on the back burner..If you choose the USMC and you are good enough for special ops units then you can try out for them then..But to wish to be a Marine for the sole purpose of elite units is a great mistake..

You can read here on what it takes and means to become a US Marine..The USMC is NOT for everyone and I hope you realize this..

  4. if you want to be a Ranger, join the Army.   and be careful of making statements like " the Marines are the best"  NOT SO.  ALL FIVE BRANCHES of the US military have a long and glorious history and choosing one over the other does NOT make you better( or worse) than any other.

Each Branch has their own  niche that they do better than anybody else, but ALL are worthy institutions.

Personally, my husband preferred the Navy because they Navy offered him a better fit professionally and personally.  for others the Air Force is a better choice.
