after watching the Silva vs. Jardine fight I think it's only about time now

well there have been 2 death sin the history of MMA one guy died in the ukraine in a no weigth class bare knuckle figth also he ahd a history of passing out while trianing the guy could not get cleared to fight in the USA anywhere the other sam vazquez the only in modern MMA had a history of blood clotes in his brasin before he fought MMa is actully proven to be much safer then other combat sports

The only time it can happen is if the fighter get inside the octagon with head injury already, which is not going to happens.

It actually is very true that as a sport, MMA is much safer than boxing ever was or be.

you got down once and the fight is over in MMA.

Head trauma in an MMA bout is way less than in a boxing match.

if you specifically say UFC, then the chance is actually even lower. The fighters standard in UFC is much better than the lesser organizations, meaning they're much better trained and thus much better prepared before they enter the octagon/ring.

I was at a fight were a kickboxer died.

The guy was out on his feet and they stopped the fight for over 5 min. to retie his gloves. I was in the front row and complained loadly as this was the main event and I had been indulging in a refreshing alchoholic beverage(s). The fight continued and both fighters had so much heart!  They beat the       out of each other. Later that night he went into a coma and died a few days later. Realy sucked since he was a last minuite (less than a weeks notice) replacement for another fighter. It was a very good fight and the fighter who died was only slightly less skilled than the local champ. This annual MA demo, karate points fighting, kickboxing event had been going for many years and this was the first time I had gone. After his death they cancled all future events.

Real martial arts are made to inflict injury and kill, even with the restrictive rules, eventually someone will die. It will be interesting how the UFC will handle this.
