Seriously - cultured neurons controlling a robot and expected to learn and in some way show us how the memories are manefested upon recognition of a situation previously experienced!

  1. Dangerous technology in the hands of a dangerous species.

  2. Why so serious?

  3. How does this work in detail?..can visualise random signals from the ratbotbrain directing the vehicle in everywhich direction initially. Then presumably a transducer detects an obstacle. In order for the ratbot to take evasive action, the signal from the transducer would have to trigger the release of appropri8 neurotransmitters which would inhibit/excite firings in the neuron assembly which would turn/reverse the ratbot. These NT's would then require 2 be 'mopped up' and the responses stored in a sub/supra cortex. Sounds like they have built a primitive complex of 'sensory' (that's the transducer bit) and motor neurons. In order to duplicate truly flexible or even just instinctive behaviour u need a further hierarchy of intermediary neurons which can store the particular responses to motor and sensory information..ie 'memory'
