Question:

Seriously friends would you prefer that users here do not oppose your views?

Dear Friends,

Good morning! Before you answer this question, I would like to put forward my views. I can see that there is some friction here. The question is : will this be a better site if people simply agreed to your point of view.

I remember, I once asked a question in the boxing section about the most inspirational boxer. My favourite has always been somkin' Joe. It comes as no surprise that I would not hold Muhammed Ali in high esteem. However, there was a person who spoke eloquently about Md Ali, even though I disagreed I gave him the BA.

I feel that some of the users who express thier opinions clearly are also the very interesting users. I would like to have your opinion.

Thanks

Rehman

  1. What would be the sport in that?  And anyway, neither one of you knows who the most inspirational boxer is/was.

  2. Rehman,i have always said this is a place to share opinions about the game we all love-Cricket..

But i draw the line at all abuse that has been dished out to us Australian users in here since the Sydney test between Australia and India..The abuse we have copped all because of 1 umpire and 1 match is disgusting..Many of us Aussies in here tried so many times to change racially polluted air in here but when we tried all we received was violations for our Who Am I ??...

I have always said everyone is entitled to their own CRICKET opinions, but leave the personal attacks out of it..

I was a relative stranger in here over the past month,as i have physically and mentally had enough of the cricket section.

Bingalee and i have been put into the firing line so many times because a certain user says we know nothing, our answers are stupid,i left, but only to return to see this user had been attacking not only Binga but also Crystal and TerribleO..

If this certain user could contain his racial views and stop putting Australia and Australian people down i know a lot of us will be a lot happier..

  3. Yes,I totally agree with you, furthermore it helps us to learn things we didn't know or to think beyond the box.Life would be dull if everyone is alike!

To Wayne Kerr, I understand why you would want to retaliate but its just stupid. If a dog bit you would you bite back?Is there a point in kicking that dog even?A kick could be justified but is that the Australian way?

You also think he is mentally unstable, then if you know/think this why would you continue assaulting someone who is mentally handicapped?

If you continue this Wayne you bring your standards to his level and we got two lunatics running around cricket section although I do find it amusing and entertaining at times too.I think both of you are in the same boat, well I guess in real life you two could end up as best buddies!

  4. I know exactly what you mean Rehman. We all have our own opinions, but it seems that some people cannot accept that not everyone shares the same opinion. This causes a lot of friction on the section.

I don't know about people "agreeing to your point of view". Perhaps the way you wished to express it was "agreeing to let you have your own point of view, even if not shared by them".

If someone has a strong opinion about something, then I will respect that, even if I don't agree with it.

I get fed up with seeing people putting perfectly good answers to questions, and they get thumbs-downs put next to their answers.

In my opinion, the only time this should be done is if someone has given an abusive answer. If it is simply because their viewpoint doesn't correspond with your own then giving a thumbs-down is wrong.

And there is far too much calling of names on this section. Fortunately I have not been targeted in the cricket section, where even the feuding factions all seem to be able to put up with my questions and answers, but there are people in the cricket section who seem to enjoy coming on it to abuse one another.

It is wrong, and should stop.

People should have respect for one another, and learn to get along. Just because someone doesn't share your opinions does not mean that they are wrong and you are right.

Everyone has their own opinions, and rather than just abusing each other, we can learn a lot from other peoples views.

  5. Totally agree with you Rehman. I'm all for people of all nationalities to share their different points of view. What a boring old world it would be if we all simply agreed with one another.

However, when "someone" (we all know who I mean here) constantly posts outrageous half truths and outright lies about another country, then what action do you suggest we take? Sit back and take it? Sorry, but that isn't the way us Aussies are brought up.

Add to this the fact that this "someone" also has a penchant for emailing death threats and graphical descriptions as to how he is going to rape the female family members of other users, then the only outcome is going to be what you have observed happening in here for many, many months.

This "someone" then has the audacity to claim that he is the victim of racial vilification, and continues to make his inflammatory posts with monotonous regularity. It is beyond my comprehension that some people cannot see that they are the cause of their own problems; they aren't being attacked because of their nationality or for the colour of their skin, rather they are being brought to task due to their own words and actions. Seems to me that this person loves to hide behind the old racism excuse instead of standing up like a man and admitting he is the root cause of the problem.

I think everyone would agree that this site would be immeasurably better if this particular character finally got the message that his one eyed xenophobic rants against Australia aren't wanted in here, and that he should just leave here for good.

Personally, I honestly believe this character has serious mental health issues. Don't hold your breath waiting for him to depart this section, that's for sure.

  6. Interesting dialog requires a certain degree of conflict or opposition. There is no joy in reading opinions which simply confirm your own. I am aware what view I hold, what my point of view is. If it is my intent to agree with me, i don't require anyone else.

Information is not garnered by tacit agreement, but by learning the opinions, views and fact sets of others.

Can you imagine how dreadfully inane this sight would be (not that it is not sometimes inane now!) were it absent dissent.

  7. I agree in part, let peace reign at all costs, but I think simply agreeing to disagree would let all users retain their dignity instead of having to back down continually. I mean if you don't agree, state your opinion but in a polite & sensible manner. On the other hand, Wayne Kerr has a point when he says we Aussies will not tolerate our cricketers good names being muddied & our users here being harrassed & abused via emails & posts in this or any section.

  8. I think its healthy to listen to other peoples opinions and agree to disagree if need be. I do think its wrong to criticise others opinions , and a mutual respect should be observed.

    Then theres Oz........................

  9. I think Mohamad Ali.
