Nabby was the better goalie. Stupid NHL and their Highschool Popularity contest

Marty is a great goalie.. but it's who is best best for that year, not who has more fans.

what are your thoughts?

  1. i think chris osgood is the best goalie.

  2. yea i will admit Marty can be sometimes be unpredictable like Detroit and Dallas series i thought he would be a standout like the previous series but he choked, i didn't quite expect it. Nabby was consistent which makes him a better goalie in that perspective and he doesn't choke in playoffs like Marty, the goalie is a major factor in a championship team and if he cant consistently play strong the goalie at the other end will prevail. by the time he regained confidence and pulled his head from his  rear Detroit had the series in their possesion which needs to change if the stars want to win the cup next year. he said he had a problem playing Detroit because he played in the Red wings arena alot in college and it intimidated him, what i say is GET OVER IT, i totally agree with you Marty doesn't deserve the attention he gets alot of times

  3. looking at this you are accually right

  4. Nabokov had SLIGHTLY better numbers than Brodeur, but the difference is Nabokov has a terrific team in front of him, and Brodeur is the only half way decent player on the Devils.  Plus if you're going to unseat the champion you'd have to have a WAY better season then Brodeur did, not just slightly better.

  5. The most telling stat that you left out is save %.  The rest are affected by the play of the team, save % less so.  Again quality of shots is a factor.

    I think if you parked Marty in SJ and Nabby in Jersey you would see that playing with the sharks Brodeur would still excell.  Not sure Nabakov would do the same in Jersey.

    They both had great seasons but as the say

    To be the king you have to beat the king.  Nabakov did not do enough to be clearly better than brodeur.  The voters naturally give the incumbant the benefit of the doubt.

    It was close but brodeur had the better season on a weaker team.

  6. San Jose has at least 5 Stars on that team of theres(Cheechoo,Thornton,Marleau,Roenick and Campbell) can you name 1 star other then Marty on the Devils?Marty is the gold standard in goaltending.He keeps them in every game and I couldn't hate a goalie more then that the way he beats the Flyers.

    EDIT-NORRIS-West,SELKE-West, BYNG-West, CALDER-West, JENNINGS-West, LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT-West, I think the West did pretty good last night and in the EAST 1 guy took 4 awards.

  7. Evgeni Nabokov should have won the Vezina trophy. Like you showed everyone, he had better overall stats and he had a better year than Martin Brodeur. But Brodeur is still a great goalie.

  8. I agree Brodeur should have won. The Sharks are a great team all around. With the exceptions of Elias and Parise the Devils have no one BUT Brodeur. The devils are a team full of average players (Though I think Parise has a great future) Brodeur is the soul of the team. They have little to no defense, there forwards werent even at the net in the playofffs. They looked like they forgot how to play hockey.

    I agree, throw Brodeur in with the Sharks his stats would be better, throw Nabby in with the Devils and idk how well hed have done

  9. nabby definatly deserved to win & he should have, the stats even prove it. he's a better goalie. im a sharks fan but even if i wasn't nabby still would have deserved to win. hopefully next year, nabby will be one of the 3 finalists & actually win it next year.

  10. I thought Giguere was better than both, but that's just me.

    Tough call between the two you've mentioned, although Brodeur did have a .920 to .910 lead in save percentage that I'd also factor in to my vote.

    There is definitely a popularity and legacy factor that happens in the NHL's voting, though.

  11. Thank God hockey awards aren't given out by fan votes. Or Rory would have won the Norris.

    The awards are voted on by the hockey writers who take a professional view to the awards. The Vezina is awarded to the player judged to be the best at his position. This doesn't always relate to stats but to impact that the player has on the game.

    There are more games that were won by Brodeur rather than Brodeur was the goaltender in the win. Nabokov won more games because he was the goaltender on the winning team than was the reason his team won the game. A telling stat is not a goal tender stat but Team goals scored. for the same defence stats. The Sharks scored 8 % more goals. giving Nabokov an 8% better chance to win.

  12. Nabby got robbed

  13. Nabby defiantly deserved to win this year he had a way better season then Brodeur.

  14. Joe & Tom both hit the nail on the head...said it better then i could have myself.

    Nabby is a great goalie with a good team behind him.

    Broduer is a great goalie who makes his team good.

    Honestly I think Nabby may have more fans that Bandwagon has a full trolly car on it this year.

    as for stats add these in your pipe and smoke it..LOL!!!

    Devils= Goals for 198

                 shots on goal 2362

                 shots against 2089

    Broduer= .920 save %

    Sharks= Goals for216

                 shots on goal 2428

                 shots against 1802

    Nabby= .910 save %

    The only reason Martys drama was big was because it happened against the Rangers and the NY post blew it out of proportion. Marty chose not to shake Avery's hand like alot of other players have done in the past. If that little Duetch ran his mouth about my wife and kids I'd have severed his spleen myself.

    Marty is like the Crosby of Goalies you either Love him or hate him because your team doesn't have him......"Seriously"

  15. I would say Brodeur, Nabby had a team in front of him and Brodeur had a few guys.

  16. I would've voted for Nabakov but Brodeur also was very good. The one thing Brodur has is he is the Devils. Nabakov can give up 4 goals and sutill win. Not Marty.

  17. The most deserving rarely gets the award anymore sadly. Look at Carey Price's rookie of the year award going to a Black Hawk when Price wasn't even in the top 3.

    Nabokov was the better goalie this year but, the idiots voting just go with a name they heard of once and take it. Same as when Palmiero won the gold glove at firstbase in the MLB, the year he DH'ed all year, or Hideki Matsui was somehow beaten for rookie of the year?
