My sister suffers from depression, anger, barely leaves the house and hasn't worked for 2 years.. The first 8 weeks she was on 20mg daily of Prozac then on the 9th week the dosage went to 40mg daily but by the 12th week, she had a serious rage blow up. Then her psychiatrist gave her Abilify. First 3 days on 5mg and then up to 10mg. By day 6 she had the worst case of akithesia and decided to get rid of her psychiatrist and stop taking her medication. He called it a tranquilizer, which now I know it is not. After months of pleading, we got her a great psychologist. By the 7th session, we were told we also had to find her a psychiatrist for medicine care management.

Her new psychiatrist prescribed Seroquel and Lexapro. Is it extremely coincidental but after taking the first Seroquel 50mg, the next day she went out to visit friends in a close by city for a barbecue. Coincidental or Seroquel?

Has anyone had this medication combination? Did you like it or not?

  1. One time i took 3 seroquel at one time and slept for 23 hours straight.

  2. i used to take 30mg lexapro a day

it made me feel anxious, and sometimes i would have terrible dreams. i didnt care for it much... and it usually wore off by about 7pm

  3. H*ll yeah i do both

  4. Oh god, if it works for her by all means go for it, it's a matter of which is the better of the two though, her depressed or emotionless. At first I thought it was working great, then I realized I was just droning through life. I stopped both, went through horrible withdrawals from the Lexapro for days, seeing things, thinking everything was LITERALLY out to get me, crying for no reason, vertigo... and the Seraquil, I actually took one for the first time in forever last night for sleep... it knocked me out cold for 18 hours.

I might just be over sensitive or on a higher dose tho...

  5. Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic that can popularly be known as a "tranquilizer", just as Seroquel is.

Your sister's "anger" was likely to be agitation and irritability ignited by the rise in the Prozac dosage. The Abilify was meant to reduce such symptoms while Prozac was treating her depression. The akasthesia was a side-effect of the Abilify.

Lexapro is an antidepressant which has the added benefit of reducing anxiety and making manic/hypomanic episodes less likely than with older SSRIs like Prozac and Zoloft.

I've taken 10mg of Lexapro in the morning and 425mg of Seroquel in the evening for several years. I no longer have agitation, irritability, racing thoughts or impulsivity. I do well on the medications together with Lamictal (an antiseizure medication used as a mood stabilizer).

As far as the improvement in your sister's symptoms goes, my money would be on the Seroquel.

  6. i had seroquel but not the other i took seroquel to help me sleep but if it workin for her thats good does she get sleepy when she takes it

  7. Maybe she just wanted hamburgers and hot dogs really bad?
