So i am in 8th grade and I really need help on my overhand serve. I am short so it is had for it to be hit the ball high for a long time, so it hits the net. I need a step by step instruction. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I practice a lot so that isn't the problem.

  1. I am in 8th grade too and shortness doesnt have anything to do with it. Actually strength doesnt either.

I have a friend who is like 75lbs and she is SCRAWNY! She can hit the ball over the net!

First: Give yourself the perfect toss and hit the ball as high up as possible with your arm fully extended.

Second: Wherever your shoulders are pointing, the ball is going that way.

Third: Snap the wrist just a little if you get the ball going over the net. Don't start the wrist until you can get like 6 in a row overhand. Keep it simple right now.

Fouth: If you don't have enough power (which is fine) start paralelle to the net and swing your torso and foot that is closest to the net so you are ususing all of your body strength and not just your arms.

HOPE THIS WORKS OUT FOR YOU!

  2. so first throw it up with your hand that you don;t use then step forward with the foot you dont use and hit it with your palm. dont slap it or hit with your nuckles. thats just bad.

  3. ok these people who say hit it over ur head....no u get really bad serves....

ok im in 8th grade 2...so ya..wat u do is put the ball in ur left hand (right if ur left handed)...toss it a half a foot above the length of ur arm and slightly in front of it..pull the left hand down for power, and hit the ball at the highest point of ur arm...hit with an open hand in ur palm i dont recommend fist serving....step into the ball to make it drive harder (power)....good luckkkk.... :-d

make sure u follow through also (unless your doing a float serve) but start with a serve with a follow through)

  4. practice more!!!

  5. If you're right handed, throw the ball up with your left. Right after you've thrown it, take a step with your right hand and swing in one fluid motion. That's how I mastered my over hand serve but then again I'm 5'8. It may work for you too

  6. Lucky for you I am also in 8th grade short and lead my team in serving.

I throw the ball in the air

Pull the hand lthat I am serving with back like a bow and arrow (this will give you power)

Then once the ball hits right above your head smack it!!!

    Good luck

  7. I used to have the same problem.

at night what I do is take a volleyball and bounce it and hit it aganist the wall.

this will help with your arm strength.

then when its a nice day...get outside and practice... hit it with your palm as hard as you can.

  8. The key for your serve is to aim it a little higher... and don't serve the ball "flat".

Even when we talk about "hit the ball high", we are not saying anyone can serve it "straight down", unless you do jump serve. There got to be a "curve" like what Vick described, no matter whether you are tall or short. It doesn't have to be such a huge curve, but it could be a problem if anyone serves the ball "flat".

  9. Use your legs when you serve, not just your arms.  Toss the ball just in front of you, step with your opposite foot, and use all of your body's strength when you hit the ball.  Most people your age try to only use their arms, which is why a lot of girls can't get the ball past the net.  Also, direct your opposite shoulder towards the net.  This will put you in a position kind of like a baseball pitcher, they never throw the ball facing straight at the plate.  One shoulder is always in front of the other.  Also, keep your shoulders level.  When you drop your opposite shoulder, this is when you hit the ball into the net.

  10. well if your talkin tennis here, it takes a bit of practice to serve but the easy way i learned is to tap the ball at moderate power so it goes up then down instead of a professional smash.

____=_________}{                like that but bit of practice helps

  11. 1. put the ball in your left hand, and make sure its in line with your right shoulder when you toss it. (make sure your toss is high)

    2. pull your right (serving) arm back like a bow&arrow , your hand will be by your ear

    3. STEP INTO IT, this is where SO MUCH of the power comes from.

    4. LAST, when you hit it, hit it at its highest point, and make sure your hand is strong and not limp or anything!

and if your left handed, just do this with your left hand!

  12. i'll help you. I luv tennis! XD what you need to do is picture that you are hitting the sky, but make sure your wrist snaps when you come down and accelerate, that way you have power but your still pretty accurate see if that helps. and make sure you have the right grip.

  13. for ur serve you may want to practice this ethod...

start about 5 feet behind the ten foot line

instead of serving in a dead line, lift the ball a bit higher, in like more of an angleabove the net

hit the ball as hard as you can and once you can hit the ball in from there ten times in a row, move a foot or two back

soon u'll get it down.....GOOD LUCK

and always warm up your shoulder before serving so you dont get hurt

  14. Hmmm well being short really doesnt make a differance....

Its just how hard you are able to hit the ball..

You could look on the web.

Type in how to serve a volleyball. In the search.

    GOOD LUCK

  15. It is a good thing your tennis serve is good.  I can not help you with that.

There are 3 common mistakes.  Poor tosses, moving the "plant" foot and lack of belief.

Practice your toss.  Toss the ball about 2 to 3 feet above your head.  Maximum.  Do 10 tosses without hitting the ball.  Take one minute off.  Do 10 and so on.  Do at least 100 tosses without hitting the ball.  You need to have a consistent toss or you will never get your serve over consistently.

When you serve, plant your right foot if you are right handed.  And I mean PLANT your right foot.  You push with your right foot.  You can take a small step with your left foot.  do not let your right foot move.

Start at the 3 meter line.  10 foot line if you prefer.  Serve the ball.  Get it over 5 times from the 3 meter line.  Move back one step.  Get the ball over 5 times.  Move back one step and so on.  You will soon be back at the service line.  Since you do not believe that you can not get the serve over from the back line, start at the 3 meter line and be positive.  Since you will be successful from the 3 meter line, you will get the serve over.  Your brain will keep seeing success and you will be able to get the serve over from the service line.

Work on those 3 common problem areas and you will be able to get your serve over.

  16. well, if you can hit the net when you serve, all you need to do is aim for the ceiling when you serve.  if you need more strength, make sure you follow through when you hit the ball.
