I've only worked at restaurants where we could use trays, but this new place I want to apply at requires their servers to only handle plates four at a time. I was wondering if there were any veteran servers out there willing to give me some pointers. I heard from one source that the proper way to do it is three plates on your right hand and one plate on your left. I've been practicing at home and it sure is tough, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

  1. I'm right handed so I line three plates up my left arm and hold one in my right hand. It's difficult and requires practice. As for the drinks, palm three glasses in your left hand and carry one in your right. Practice. Practice. Practice.

  2. Yeah very carefully.

  3. Four plates - place one plate in your right hand and with right arm extended balance a second plate on your wrist area and the edge of first plate,  rest 3rd plate partially on edge of 2nd plate and on forearm - 4th plate is in left hand.  Four beverages - place hand palm facing up, balance one beverage at the front of fingers, 2nd towards the thumb and forefinger area and 3rd towards left of first two beverages - 4th is in other hand.

  4. 4 plates...

you will need to use your arm 1 plate  just below your shoulder, 1 just above your elbow, 1 on your fore arm and 1 in your hand.

i have actually seen a guy ata mexican restaurant carry 5 plates that way.   but  you'll have to learn how to balance them.

the 4 drink i have no idea i know you can carry 3 in a pyramid shape

this place you want to work sounds like too much hassle
