for my wedding i want it to be a casual reception...with burgers and hot dogs for the main course..and like chips and potato salad type things for the sides....

So I want to buy my own food and alcohol and whatnot.i would buy prepared potato salad and whatnot..i just want someone to grill the burgers and hot dogs...set up/replenish the foods if they run out in the buffet style..clean up in the end..and serve it (drinks)....is that possible?

  1. Ask at your favorite restaurant. Or if you know someone in the business. The bulletin board at your local campus. Look for someone with experience. Employment agencies. Some catering companies might let you hire part of their crew. Put an ad in the paper or on line @ Craig's list. Good Luck.

  2. You should hire banquet staff, thats their specialty.

  3. You can do it all yourself, but I recommend getting your friends and family to help so you are able to enjoy your day!

At our wedding we had a pasta and salad buffet.  We had spaghetti noodles, fettuccine noodles, meat sauce and Alfredo sauce along with hard rolls and four or five different types of salads.

My parents cooked ALL the pasta and sauce, my aunts prepared all the salads, we purchased wine and a keg of beer and my uncle served as "bartender" :) (I also had coffee, tea and punch available.) A group of women from my church volunteered to be my "kitchen help" They wore matching aprons and spent the whole reception refilling the punch bowl, making pots of coffee and stocking the buffet table!!  They refused to take payment!! So we sent them all gift cards to a nice restaurant as a thank you :)

We were able to put on a full meal reception for over 200 people...with very minimal stress and no catering company :)  (and we had so much food left over, we ate past for weeks ha ha)

  4. Is there a college/university in your area?  I would put up a flyer on the student board requesting servers.  Much cheaper than going through a catering firm!  :)
