  1. You didn't say whether you were running an overhead service or underground.

Copper is best and more expensive.

I would guess that from the distance you will going underground.

Schedule 40 PVC conduit buried 24" and using #1 (ought) THHN.copper.

You will need a ground rod where it goes into the building's load center (and some states now require two) 6' apart.

Good Luck and Work Safe ! ! !

  2. Actually you need at least #001 pronounced (ott) wire. # 6  copper is ok for a ground, but not good for more than 60 amps. #2 copper is rated for the load at 98 amps, but once derated it is no longer rated because of the distance. If aluminum is used,go with one size larger than copper, because it doesn't "carry' the load as well. It has a lower conductivity rating and can break down quicker. But is recommended for overhead suspended applications because of weight.

  3. Above is correct, but also look at your local code, I think you'll find at that distance you will need a local ground rod too

  4. it would take at least a #6 wire or larger, for that run , at 100 amps,

if you are going to run equip in it, i would have the elect co run a service to it, would be cheaper in the long run,

if your just going to have lights , then use #10 uv,[underground]
