  1. Your service engine light came on because one or more of the systems it monitors has returned a value outside the parameters it expects to see.  It's warning you of an upcoming problem.  The only way to find out what the problem is will be to have your mechanic put the scanner on it and read out the trouble code(s) it's throwing.  From that you will have a good idea as to what to do next.

Someone will tell you "Take it to autozone and they will read it".  Don't.  They only read it because they think they can sell you parts.  The reading is only as good as the kid on the counter that day.

Someone else will tell you to reset it by disconnecting the battery.  Don't do that either.  It might actually reset, but without the problem fixed it will come on again, and you will have to reset your clock and your station presets at best.  At worst you will have to tow your car to the dealer to reset the security system.

If it's hesitating on acceleration, it may be the TPS (throttle position sensor).  Have your mechanic scan it.

Sorry, I have to.  Please bring it to the shop.

  2. its in limp home mode...DON"T take it to a shop...hows that.

  3. i would say TPS. throttle positioning sensor.

  4. Sorry - unless you are driving a Dodge product, the only way to determine the cause is to have a DRB analysis performed. The good news is if your car is less than 10 years old and under 100,000 miles the problem is covered by the manufacturer under federal law. If you do not fall within this coverage many parts stores will perform a code read at no charge.

If you provide the make, model, year and code number and description of the code we may be able to help you in this forum.

Several possible faults may directly affect the operation of the transmission.

If you are driving a Chry/Ply/Dodge you can get the codes by cycling the ignition off, on ... 3 times ending in the run position without cranking the engine, Watch the check engine light and count flashes, a happy Dodge will flash 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 5,5,5,5,5,5 This interprets as code 12 and code 55. record any other codes and re-post.

  5. oil change new fuel and air filters maybe new plugs is what service means so first check the fluids and then id have it serviced

  6. Go to a autozone. they will read the code for FREE and that will give you a general idea of what it is.
