Services v Assam – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy, 2012/13 (Group C) – Match Update – Services claim easy 10-wicket win
A superb bowling performance from Shadab Nazar, and a century from Rajat Paliwal put Services firmly in the driving seat, and enabled them to secure a comfortable 10-wicket victory over Assam, in their Group C match during the ongoing Ranji Trophy, played from November 24 to 26 at the Palam A Ground at the Model Sports Complex in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780.
Having put Assam to bat first after winning the toss, Services reaped the rewards of the performances of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajdeep-Das-c83463 (26) remained the only other notable batsmen. Bereft of any outstanding batting performances, Assam were eventually bowled for 182.
While most of Services’ outing did not feature any stand-out batting performances either, the team was saved by centurion Rajat Paliwal. His fluent 167 proved to be the highlight of his side's innings, but he failed to find any consistent batsmen to partner with. However, while the only other decent contributions came from Soumya Swain (33) and Suraj Yadav (29), Paliwal’s century was enough to guide Services to a first innings total of 326, despite the efforts of Assam’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dhiraj-Goswami-c1370 (24.1-2-84-3).
Assam’s second turn at bat was worse than their first, with only five batsmen making it past single digits this time around. Once again, Tarjinder Singh (54) top-scored for the team, and Abu Nechim (38) chipped in with a respectable performance. Rajdeep Das (21), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amit-c44003 Sinha (20), and Pallavkumar Das (13) were all mediocre, while the rest of the batting order failed to put up a fight at all. The Assam batsmen served as easy pickings for Shadab Nazar (15-3-50-6), and Nishan Singh (19-7-57-3), and the team was bowled at 170, setting Services a meagre 27-run target.
Predictably, the Services team faced no difficulties in the chase. Ansuhl Gupta (17*) and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Soomik-Chatarjee-c90723 (8*) teamed up to get their side comfortably up to 27 within 8 overs, with 10 wickets to spare.
