Services v Jharkhand – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy, 2012/13 (Group C) – Match Update – Jharkhand win by 5 wickets
Half-centuries from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jharkhand-c800’s favour, and enabled the team to claim a 5-wicket win over Services, in their Group C match during the ongoing Ranji Trophy, played from December 29, 2012, to January 1, 2013,
at the Palam A Ground at the Model Sports Complex in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780.
Jharkhand had gotten off to a good start when the team won the toss and chose to field on the first day of play. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samar-Quadri-c2424 (both of whom picked up one scalp each), kept
the Services batsmen in check and prevented them from posting too high a total.
Skipper Soumik Chatterjee put forth a valiant performance and contributed an individual total of 97, but his lone efforts failed to make much of an impact. Nakul Verma (21), wicketkeeper batsman Sarabjit Singh (22), and Avishek Sinha (19) were the only other
batsmen who managed to reach double figures, and Services eventually succumbed, all out, at a first innings total of 185.
However, Jharkhand did not remain in the driving seat for long, as Services’ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nishan-Singh-c79701 (19-8-41-2) ensured that their opponents were cut off at a meagre first innings total of 120, despite having put forth an impressive bowling
performance earlier. Only four batsmen - Akash Verma (28), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ishank-Jaggi-c1605 (23), and Samar Quadri (11*) – succeeded in registering double-digit scores, while the rest remained insipid. Jharkhand eventually crumbled, all out, at 120.
While they had failed to gain a lead, Jharkhand made up for it by launching a fierce bowling attack during Services’ second turn at bat, spearheaded yet again by Ajay Yadav (22.4-8-43-6) and Shahbaz Nadeem (19-4-64-4). Shockingly, coming in at number 9 and
10 respectively, Avishek Sinha (47*) and Suraj Yadav (24) were the only batsmen who managed to surpass the 20-run mark, and Services found themselves all out at 152, setting their opponents a 218-run target to chase.
Jharkhand’s batsmen rallied themselves this time around, and openers Rameez Nemat (86) and Akash Verma (72) put the team on solid ground with a 151-run partnership. Ishank Jaggi (28*) and Ajatshatru Singh (13) followed up after the dismissal of the openers,
and the efforts of Services’ Nishan Singh (14.4-0-70-3) eventually went in vain, as Jharkhand easily reached 219, with 5 wickets remaining.
