Question:

Serving M&M's at the reception?

I received personalized M&M's as a gift from a friend for my wedding reception. At first I thought that I'd place them in small bowls on the tables with spoons for sanitary scooping. However, this might look a little awkward .... do you think it would be best to wrap them individually in tulle instead? What do you think?

Details drive me batty! Thanks in advance.

  1. OH, gosh, you reminded me to see about getting some of those.  If you are having a sit down dinner, I think you should just use them as favors and wrap them. That way everybody gets some.

  2. Having them in bowls is just as nice.A wedding I recently attended had M&Ms cause both their names started with M and they had them in bowls.Looked nice.

  3. i would have done the m&m's but my mother in law tolded me that i could nt do that

  4. Yes, I would wrap them M&M's.  That would be much more sanitary.  Put some in a tulle circle and wrap with a small silk ribbon.

  5. At a wedding I went to they had personalized M&Ms in little boxes like 1 in on each side with a bow on top to keep them closed. It was a cute way to wrap them and everyone LOVED the M&Ms.

  6. i was a bridesmaid in a wedding a year ago and she had m&ms as her "thank you."  she had them really neat were she put them in really little wine glasses, you can find them at michaels and just put them at each seat.  i know they won't be wrapped up in tulling but its something different.  good luck

  7. I would wrap them. This makes sure that everyone gets their share because you know that if you put them out in bowls there are going to be people who go nuts and eat the entire bowl. Atleast when they are individual, if people don't want any, they will usually gladly give the bag away to a child or someone who does want them. You could always try and find something a little more unique and fun than tulle and ribbon. Depending on the style or theme or colors of your wedding I'm sure you could find some cute bags or something that's so typical.

  8. I had m&ms at our reception and I put them in little pillow boxes that I got from michaels with a little bow and tag on them.  I was afraid to put them in tulle in case they melted a little.

  9. I would wrap them up with tulle.  I wrapped some Hershey's kisses in tulle for mine, worked out fine, plus that way, no chance of someone sticking their hands in the bowl without thinking about it and grossing out everyone else at the table.

  10. My fiance' like the peanut butter M&M's so we are taking about 80 little white boxes that were given to me and putting two of them filled up w/them to a table.  We are using 8 ft. long tables.

  11. well even if you individually wrap them, its still unsanitary, coz its probably not in the manufacturers packaging..and the whole scooping idea will look weird...sorry..

    Congratulations :)

  12. Personalized M&Ms are a really cool idea - I didn't even know you could get those.

As far as serving them, I'd say that the small bowls with spoons would be best, provided you have enough to put a bowl (or two) on each table.  I think wrapping them individually would look a little odd, and would also take time and effort that you could spend on other things - like the other details that are driving you batty.

  13. You could have 10 scoops sitting aroung the bowl and some moron will run their fingers throught the candy - gross!!!!!!! I would individually wrap them as there are finicky people like me who will not even touch the candy as we know there are people out there who do not wash their hands after using the bathroom. Individually wrapped makes for a nice presentation too. Good luck and best wishes!!!

  14. I'm doing personalized M&M's for my wedding favors. I'm going to wrap them up in a cute little bag and give them to my guests. =)

  15. I had 20 people at my wedding. What I did was buy plastic sppons and had ribbons made with my and my husband's name and the wedding date on them. I had used Hershey's Kisses instead. I put three kisses on the spoon and wrapped tulle around it and then tied it with a ribbon. It came out great.

  16. I received personalized m&m's as a gift also and i bought extra in coordinating colors.. non-personalized and put them in pillow boxes. Each box had our wedding colored m&m's and a few personalized ones with our names and the date. It went over really well.

I'd go with the individual route if you want to use them more as a favor.

I would put them in the bowls as more of a treat for guests.

  17. Why don't you make a candy station with all different types of candy and you can use Chinese take out box to put them in...

  18. you could have a candy bar and have your m&m's in that and your guest can take those empty organza favor bag and fill them with the cany of there choice and that can be there favor for your wedding PLUS you dont have to put them together
