Serving alcohol in bars.licencing laws

Should a pint of bitter chandy for instance, be served in two seperate half pint glasses and charged accordingly,so the licencee is not seen to be watering down the alcohol.(you get the gist of where im talking about)

  1. No because a pint of shandy is not subject to weights and measures  same as lemondade tops etc

  3. Have you tried making a bitter shandy? You can't just mix them like that, you'll get foam all over the place!

    However, in answer to your question, no. For a start, there is no obligation for the bar to provide a price for a half pint measure of lemonade. If they choose to have a 'small' lemonade option, that can be any size they want - 1/3 of a pint, 14oz, whatever. In the pub I work at, a half of bitter will cost around a pound, while a 'small lemonade' (14oz) will then cost £1.40 - together actually more expensive than if changed at a pint price of around £2.00!

    Also, if you ask for a shandy, you're effectively asking for a watered down beer anyway. I don't really get the complaint?

  4. They need to close down the bar, that way they do not have to worry about getting all those people drunk and killing someone.
