Any tips for serving and hitting a volleyball? I've never played before but am thinking about trying out so don't use any complicated terms cuz I may not know them.

  1. First serve to try is underhand. This is where you should start. Once you see others serving overhand, watch them then try some at serving practise. During a game, job #1 is getting the serve in play, not hitting an ace.

Your writing hand will be the one to strike the ball. Hold the ball in the palm of your other hand. Stand a little behind the line so there is no foot fault, or a couple of steps behind if you want to "walk into" the serve. Your serving hand will be palm up, and you will strike with the heel of your hand. Swing back behind you with the serving hand, and hold the ball in the other hand. As you swing your serving hand through, very slightly let the ball out of your holding hand, and make contact with the serving hand.

I thin trying to hit up (so ball goes high and falls in court on the other side) is safest. Rather than a flat serve which will easily hit the net.

    Good luck

  2. I suggest try to go to a camp for vball beginners. That should teach u a lot. For Serving practice is key. When you hti a volleybal bring your arms back and jump. It gives u more force. Good Luck!

  3. i play volleyball, and it's not hard, as long as you're motivated and in shape. when serving all i can tell you is hit it hard and in bounds. when bumping it, make sure you bend you knees and get under it, or it will just go behind your head, and you probably wont make the team if you hit it like that.lol....just relax and have fun...dont try to impress anybody...just have fun! Good Luck!!

  4. Serving.... hold the ball with left hand on the right side of your body.  Make sure that the toss (release of the ball from your left hand) is in front of your right hand and one step away from you.  To serve the ball it needs to be away from your body and high enough that you can swing your arm.  Contact the ball above your head and swing srtaight thru.

Attacking the ball... also needs to be on the right side of your body and in front of you.  Make sure to keep your elbow higher than your ear when swinging.  Best example I can give is like you are throwing a football long distance.  Swing hard at the ball and SNAP your wrist after contact.  If no snap, then it hits the back wall.  Follow thru or drive your arm fast after the contact is made.  Hard to tell over the internet.  Best of luck

  5. To serve overhead (for a right handed person): hold ball in left hand straight in front of you and toss the ball straight up.  Then swing with your right arm, with an open hand.  You want to keep your right arm almost fully extended to serve.  Make quick short contact with the palm of your hand to serve a "floater."

To hit, you'll do basically the same thing with your right arm, but you'll have to learn the footwork (the "approach") to hit well which is something you just have to see and mimic.

    Good luck.
