  1. You are judged on a foot fault by your contact with the floor.  You can be above the line when you contact the ball as long as your last contact with the floor was behind the line.  If you watch some of the better jump servers, they are well in front of the line when they contact the ball.

This is another strange rule in that it is the same for junior high school, high school, club, college and international rules.

  2. they only call it when u STEP on the line..

    after u serve u can..

  3. It sounds like you're talking about a jump serve or maybe just a "little" jump serve, like a slight hop over the line. If you watch the AVP on NBC, even the professionals sometimes do little hops, not big jumps as they serve so they can get over the end line for a better serve. As long as your foot does not touch that end line at all even when you're going to jump in the air, you must take off BEFORE that line or the ref will call it. You will simply be called for a "foot fault" or serving violation or foot violation. The other team will receive a point and you will then have to go into serve receive. But if you jump before that line and hit the ball and then land in front of the line on the court, as long as you were in the air when you crossed that line then you're good and there is no penalty.

  4. That's legal, as long as you make sure you aren't stepping in prior to finishing your serve. In the air you should be good, you haven't "touched" or "gone over" officially. Once you have completed your serve you may step over the line to return to your spot on the court.

  5. Just as long as it doesn't touch the ground over the line you should be fine.

  6. ok, so if u hit it over the net, then u step in to play the ball, they will probably not call that, because in a jumpserve, they hit it, then step into the box.

  7. It is legal as long as you do not "step" into the court, no one should call it.

It happens in jump serve, when you can fly over the court, and bomb the opponent with up-close accuracy... theoretically. So far no one has been able to abuse the rule and do the fly-over :).

When doing "stand-serve", you will need to move your weight to your front leg after contacting the ball, so that there is less chance that you want to hang your leg or foot over the court, but as long as you can manage to hang-on before the ball leaves your contact hand, you are good.

  8. when you serve, make sure that you stay behind the line.  if your foot is in the air over the line, chances are the your foot will touch the line before you hit the ball.  so it is best that you stay behind the line.  and if your foot is over the line in the air, it depends on the ref.  he/she will decide.

  9. it depends, but usually they would call it
