Sesi Sao Paulo of Brazil defeats Al-Ahly of Cairo by 3-1: Club Volleyball news
Sesi Sao Paulo of Brazil and Al-Ahly of Cairo had a FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship match on Monday, October 10th in Doha, Qatar. The four set thriller had the Brazilian club found itself in the winner's circle by 3-1.
The first set of the match was easily won by the Brazilians but the Egyptians gave Sesi Sao Paulo good competition in the second set of the game. However, the Brazilians got themselves a 2-0 advantage. The loss of the first two sets got the Egyptians to
step up their game and they managed to avoid a clean sweep by bagging the third set. In the fourth set however, the Brazilians were able to get a smothering victory that also secured them the match at the following final set scores: 25-18, 27-25, 18-25 and
25-14.
The coach of the winning team, Giovane Gavio, made the following comments at the press conference after the match had reached its close: “The most important thing for us was the victory of today, which would lead us to the semi finals. The Egyptians played
very well. We started the game with our main players because we knew the Egyptians could complicate things for us, which obviously happened in the third set.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Egyptian club, Ibrahim F. Mohammed, expressed himself in this manner: “I believe we have lost this match because my players had too much confidence after the third set and thought too easily about the fourth set. Further
I would like to thank my players for playing consistently, and I'm very proud of the young players. They will certainly be the future of our team.”
The first technical time out of the first set saw the Brazilians take the lead at 8-5. They were able to maintain the lead all through but the Egyptians also remained close at 18-14. However, the Brazilians were able to put on a burst of speed that brought
them the opening set at 25-18.
The second set went tough and the frame was still tied at 23-23. However the Brazilians were able to assert themselves again by bagging a win at 27-25. The third set saw the Egyptians take matters in their own hands and eventually got a win at 25-18 but
the Brazilians came out strong in the fourth and secured a win at 25-14.
Despite the fact that his team lost the match, AL-Ahly’s Ahmed Abdelhay was able to score the most points by tallying a score of 19. On the other hand, the most active player on the Brazilian squad was Wallace Martins who scored a total of 17 points in the
entire match.
