Sesil Karatantcheva makes her way to the opening round – XXIV SNAI Open 2011
The Kazakh tennis ace Sesil Karatantcheva has made her way into the opening round of the 2011 XXIV SNAI Open women’s single tournament on Monday after getting the better of Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino in straight sets.
The final match score was 7-5, 6-3 and the clash lasted for a time period of ninety seven minutes.
Karatantcheva, who is currently ranked 212 in the WTA single’s rankings list, had to dig deep to cruise past Arruabarrena-Vecino, however, she did well to emerge victorious in the end.
Karatantcheva’s game was perfectly accurate at the start of the match, saving five of eight break points, and it was this accuracy which fashioned Karatantcheva the break of serve, and a comfortable rhythm for the Kazakh No. 4
to clinch the match in straight sets.
However, as the business end of the first set approached, the Kazakh woman did start to tighten up, and this absurdity allowed Arruabarrena-Vecino back into the match. With the match back on serve, it seemed palpable that a tie-breaker
would pop-up to decide the outcomes, but Karatantcheva composed herself tremendously, and broke back to take the first set with seven games to five.
The Kazakh player wrapped up the first set with two aces and 62 percent of points on her first serve. Not to mention, she clinched 61 percent on her service, 49 percent on return and a total of 40 of 74 points during the opening
set. In contrast the Spaniard lost the first set with a difference of six points in total.
After losing her first set, the Spaniard seemed to drop the level of her game as she looked totally frustrated by the variety of Karatantcheva’s defence and started to miss the mark, a testament of her frustration. This eventually
resulted in her humiliating defeat, as she lost the second set with three games to Karatantcheva’s six.
In the second set, Karatantcheva delivered a single ace, 71 percent on first serve and won an acceptable 60 percent on them. In contrast, Arruabarrena-Vecino failed to show the spark and could only win a meagre 42 percent on her
first serve.
Emerging victorious, Karatantcheva has extended her year-to-date win-loss mark to 14-11 matches and now marches on into the first round where she will face second-seeded Roberta Vinci for the first time in her career.
