Session leads as Charlotte Bobcats brush aside Washington Wizards 92-76: NBA Recap
Ramon Sessions scored 21 points and Kemba Walker had 17 points to lift the Charlotte Bobcats to a 92-76 win over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist chipped in with 15 points and 8
rebounds for the night. It was a disappointing performance by the Wizards, now 0-6, as only Trevor Ariza got into double scoring figures with 19 points.
"We felt like we came out and played the way we should. We're making progress and showing that. We came out and protected our home court. This one was big for our young team. I just went out there and played
my game and tried to do what I know how to." -- Charlotte guard Sessions said after the game.
Washington shot 29.8 percent from the floor and 16.1 from the three point range while the Bobcats shot 39.7 percent from the floor and 23.1 percent from downtown. They also got 46 points in the paint compared
to 24 by the Wizards.
Washington got off to a decent start and sprinted to 7-0 lead before the Bobcats responded to tie the score at 9. A
Kidd-Gilchrist jumper put the Bobcats up 17-16 a little later but an instant 8-0 burst turned the tide in the Wizards’ favour as they took a 24-17 lead. Bobcats reduced the deficit a bit and went into the second period trailing 23-27.
Bobcats meant business from the first moment onward in the second period as they outscored the Wizards by 17. The score was tied at 31 early after a Jordan Crawford free throw for the Wizards. Bobcats started
pulling ahead and were 38-33 up few minutes later. Wizards managed to make it a three point game at 37-40 with a Trevor Booker layup, but the Bobcats pulled off a 12-2 run at the end of the period to cement their authority as they went into half time leading
by 52-39.
Charlotte were up by 57-41 early in the third period and they kept the momentum going as they extended the margin to 18 points at 66-48. Wizards then went on a rampage as they pulled off a 13-2 run to get within
chasing distance at 68-61. Reggie Williams scored two from free throws for the Bobcats to had them leading 70-61 at the end of the period.
Wizards were trailing 67-74 early in the final period when a 9-0 run that included 6 points from Kemba Walker blew away the Wizards’ chances, and put the Bobcats up by 83-67. Sessions nailed a three pointer followed
by two Tyrus Thomas free throws that extended their advantage to 88-69, with about 3 and a half minutes left on the regulation. A Thomas jumper extended the lead to 21 points, the highest in the game, as the Bobcats finished off with a comfortable 92-76 victory
in the end.
