Set To Music bidding for Bet365 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock
Michael Bell’s 4-year-old, Set To Music, is all set to bid for her second Oaks victory this season. After winning the Voute Sales Warwickshire Oaks Stakes last month, the Queen's filly is geared up to register her second Oaks triumph of the season at Haydock,
where she will show her class in the Bet365 Lancashire Oaks on Saturday.
Set To Music was super impressive in her last outing at Warwick. After a few unlucky outings, Bell’s charge was under some pressure, nonetheless, she lived up to the expectations. The 6-4 favourite chased the leader quite brilliantly in the beginning.
She did well in the middle hours to establish her dominance a furlong before the wire. After getting in command, she enhanced her speed significantly to put the rivals under tremendous pressure.
She was in no danger in the final stages of the event, as she stretched her advantage dramatically inside the final 150 yards. Dragonera, who sealed the runner-up place, was unable to create any problem for the leading runner, as she fell short by 3¾ lengths.
In the hands of Paul Mulrennan, the Ed Dunlop-trained led the proceedings in the beginning, but failed to retain her advantage till the finish. The 4-year-old has been unlucky since the start of this season, as she was runner-up behind Qaraaba in the Freebets.co.uk
Fillies’ Handicap at Doncaster last month.
Mid Mon Lady was third on the table. Although Sir Mark Prescott Bt’s charge could not trouble the top pair, she beat Rumh by four and a half lengths to confirm her place on the podium.
Bell was very delighted over his trainee’s excellent show. He said after the race: "She'll head to Haydock on Saturday. I was pleased with how she quickened up at Warwick and I was also pleased with her run at Haydock before that, where she was a little
unlucky and didn't get the rub of the green.”
"I think her optimum trip is a mile and a half, despite winning over shorter at Warwick. She likes slow ground, she has won on good to firm but it's always been on well-watered ground. She's at home with cut and does not want it too quick," he added.
