Alright so I got a new router today iys a dlink dir-655 and im upgrading from a dlink wbr2310. Any who so I connected the new router like i was suppose to following the router setup but it wont connect. It connects but not allowing me to connect to any websites etc. (im using vista) and it doesn't have the globe icon on it its just the normal 2 monitors. Anywho so when i connect the old router back It works and has the globe has full internet connection and all that. I had the same problem before with my wbr2310 router but found some command i can do in ipconfig.exe to fix it and let me set it up but now i forgot it. So how would i set up the new router so it connects good?

  1. like....cmd prompt:

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

If you reset the dsl or cable modem and then the router, it should renew your IP address.

As to setting it up:  follow the instructions, most new routers require you to run the setup cd before even connecting the hardware.....sometimes resetting the modem helps because of the IP conflict....once connected via hardwire, try to access the router via internet explorer (192.168.1.1   most common) Then setup your security settings for the wireless.
