  1. Depends on what your fishing for.  Spinnerbaits are great for beginning bass fishing.  Cast them out and reel em back in, not slowly but not like a jackrabbit either. moderate steady retreive will work best for the beginner. Don't forget to do a search on knots to tie your baits on with. In fishing the old square knot is knot (yuk yuk) for you. You didn't say what type of reels you have. With open faced reels with a bail you will probally want to have a swivel installed above your bait to keep the line from twisting. So much more to say and not enough time. Good Luck.

  2. First thing I would recommend you changing the line on the reels, look on the reels for what lb/test line to put on - I'd go with 10 or 12lb test...

Then I'd research some knots to tie on hooks - if it's just a weekend to start I'd go with the old faithful - night crawlers.

size 4 hook  >> 15 inches of line >> barrel swivel >> egg sinker

cast out the rods and leave some slack on the line and wait...

find a stick with a Y and place the rod in the groove of the Y so it sits about 2-3 foot  above the ground at about a 45 to 60 degree angle to the ground.

If you get bored get some silver spoons or gold spoons >> Johnsons minnow or daredevil about 1/2 oz or so...

spinner baits are easy too as they said... with both lures (spoons & spinnerbaits) you get many hits as the lure is sinking down to the depth where the fish are - wait about 45 sec to 1 minute (it's a long time) for the lure to sink...also retrieve it slowly then pause the retrieve repeating... or you can try letting it sink then reel it in and jerk it every now and then then reel in & repeat... experiment - there will be a learning curve... but you should be having a good time..
