Set up domain for multiple servers?

Question

I have a website..

example.com.

It is hosted on server1

however if server 1 fails for some reason i want example.com to go to a different server.. server2

I have the website set up on both servers... what do I need to do to get the domain to point to server1 but if it fails point to server2? thanks to any responders.

It's all in the nameservers, there's a main server, and then if that fails there's an alternate/backup. Same happens for the DNS.
