Setback for Buffalo Bills as Fred Jackson exits with a broken leg – NFL News
Buffalo Bills suffered a major blow as Fred Jackson was placed on season-ending injured reserve. The running back has sustained a right leg injury with a broken fibula. The announcement was made on Wednesday and comes as a setback
for the widely considered bright prospectus of the Buffalo Bills.
The injury occurred during the Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. The injury may take up to six weeks to heal, so Jackson is out for the remainder of the year. He already missed the game against the New York Jets on Sunday.
Bills coach Chan Gailey confirmed that tests taken by Jackson showed a broken bone. Commenting on the tests, the coach said, "That's disappointing news for our team and certainly for Fred. He was having a great year. The process
for Fred to return to the field would most likely take him through the end of the season, so we have made the difficult decision to place him on injured reserve."
Running back C.J. Spiller will now move in to fill the gap for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. Gailey confirmed the move. Also Tashard Choice has been picked by the Bills to overcome the deficiency due to Jackson’s exit.
The running back was picked off waivers from the Washington Redskins. However it is evident that Jackson’s exit cannot be compensated for.
Spiller said he was excited about the game but at the same times was upset at the loss of one of the great players in the team. It can also be seen that despite the presence of Jackson the Bills have had three straight losses.
Gailey seemed hopeful that there would not be much of a change in the offensive line.
"You want to let C.J. go in and do what he does best and give him an opportunity to make plays. He gets his chance now. He's probably looking forward to it and so are we." Gailey said.
Jackson thanked the Bills for all the support on twitter. Addressing the Bills fans, he urged them to continue supporting the Bills. He further added that he would soon be back and hoped he would get the chance to play one more
game this season.
Buffalo players seem upset over Jackson’s exit. quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said that it would be “tough” not having Jackson on the field.
