Seth Mitchell takes on Chazz Witherspoon in a 10-round heavyweight bout – Boxing News
Golden Boy Promotions has almost completed its HBO’s Saturday night show fight card and recently announced the co-main event which will take place between two of the best American heavyweights that is Seth Mitchell and Chazz Witherspoon.
The announcement was made by Richard Schaefer, CEO Golden Boy Promotions in an exclusive interview to ESPN. HBO’s Saturday night ‘World Championship Boxing’ show will be headlined by the bout between Chad Dawson and Bernard Hopkins and will be televised
on April 28, 2012.
While expressing his views about the bout, Richard said, “It’s a good solid fight and a good step up for Seth. It’s a fight that makes sense for Seth and for Chazz Witherspoon.” Seth, infamous as the ‘Mayhem’, has been in a total 25 bouts and has won 24.
He has never lost even a single bout but has a draw in his account which he collected against Alvaro Morales in the beginning of his career.
Seth, 29, has never won a title in his career and has collected a total 18 of his wins by knockout. Chazz, on the other hand, overshadows Seth by his experience and agility.
Chazz, widely known as ‘The Gentleman’, has been in a total 32 brawls and came out victorious in 30. He has collected 22 wins by knockout. Seth has recently nailed Timur Ibragimov by brutally blanking his senses in just the second round of the 10-round bout.
Chazz is also on a winning streak and recently nailed David Saulsberry via knockout in the second round.
Xavier James, Chazz’s attorney said that the fight is due and we have just received the contract adding that his client knows this bout is pivotal for his career. James commented, “We’ve agreed to the fight and I just got the contract today, so I’ll go over
it and, assuming everything is in order, we have a fight. Chazz knows he has to win in order to take that next step in his career.”
On the other hand, same zeal and energy is visible in Seth’s camp as Sharif Salim, Mitchell’s manager, admitted that he had been following Chazz rigorously and wanted to arrange this bout for his client at the earliest.
Sharif shared his immense contentment and said, “We finally got it made. (Witherspoon) came to terms and it’s one of the fights we've been going after. Chazz is from Philly, Seth is from the D.C. area. I know we have busloads of people looking forward to
going up for the fight.”
Salim was of the view that this is the best and the most appropriate bout for Seth at this moment of his career and it will help him gain more experience and knowledge about the sport. Both men will collide at Boardwalk Hall situated in Atlantic City, New
Jersey, United States in a 10-round non-title bout.
