Seth Smith shines as Colorado Rockies defeat Cincinnati Reds 10-7 - MLB Update

Colorado Rockies’ left-fielder, Seth Smith was extraordinary with the bat as he hit two home runs including two RBIs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .284 in the Rockies’ 10-7 win against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati on
August 8.
Reds got off to a quick start as they blasted three runs in first inning to get a 3-0 lead. Jay Bruce struck a three-run homer (398 feet) towards right-field while Fred Lewis and Joey Votto both scored two consecutive runs for the Reds. During second inning,
the Rockies were able to post two runs on the score-board and curtailed their lead 3-2.
Smith hit a two-run homer (378 feet) to right-field and Todd Helton added second run for the Rockies. Both teams contributed three individual runs in third inning to move the score-board 6-5. At the top of third inning, Mark Ellis posted a single run when
Helton drove towards centre-field. Smith hit his second homer (384 feet) of the game towards right-field and Helton scored one run to complete a three-run campaign for Rockies.
Bruce hit a single-run shot to right-field and Edgar Renteria scored one run. Drew Stubbs homered (362 feet) towards left-field and Bruce took the third run for Reds. Rockies’ starter, Jason Hammel was expensive with the ball as he threw his four inning
pitches with an ERA of 5.14 and presented six runs, four hits, six earned runs, two walks and two homers. He struck-out two batters on his 65 pitches.
Rockies went ahead 7-6 by posting two runs in fifth inning. Helton homered (358 feet) towards right-field and Troy Tulowitzki contributed one run. The game was tied 7-all during seventh inning when Brandon Phillips hit a one-run homer (421 feet) to left-field.
But, in the very next inning, Rockies blasted two runs to take a 9-7 lead.
Hammel said, “I wasn't coming out of the game. I'd only thrown 30 pitches. I didn't get the results I wanted, but the silver lining is I saved our bullpen for two innings.”
Carlos Gonzalez struck a two-run homer (431 feet) to centre-field and Dexter Fowler scored a tie-breaking run for Rockies. Ellis hit a double-run shot to deep right-field and Fowler added the last run in ninth inning to end the game 10-7.
However, the Rockies got a convincing 1-0 lead against the Reds in the four-game series.
