Question:

Setter's injury: Anyone else have this problem?

I used to be a setter until I acquired recurring tendonitis in my wrist two years ago, thanks to poor instruction. I've gotten it every season since. Now when I set I use a wrist brace, but it still doesn't fully prevent another recurrence. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you get past it to still play each season? I was thoroughly disappointed to miss last season, but I'm trying out again this year.

  1. Anybody tell you about putting analgesic balm on the area before practice or a match ?  It will keep it warm and encourage blood flow to the area.  It won't cure the problem (maybe only complete rest will) but it will alleviate some of the pain.

I will mention one other thing and you will think I'm nuts.  It is dog liniment.  This liniment has ingredients that draw out soreness.  I used it all the time in my athletic days.  It doesn't smell great but it worked wonders for me (when I had a severe wrist injury from baseball).  You'll think I'm kidding you but you should try it.  Visit your local veterinarian to get some.
