Setting Automatic Frequency Code

Question

Light and fan work when using the on/off switch. However, we can not get the adjustable controls to work. When setting the automatic freqency code it does not seem to work as noted in the manual. What we did: Turned light on, after long beep can short beeps, pushed one of the buttons on the wall control. Problem: Second series of short beeps does not stop. Help!
