Setting Up Surround Sound On My Older TV??

So I just got a Toshiba 53ax62 from a friend, and the speakers are blown on the TV itself, which they said would be fine if I just set up surround sound on it. Well, I have a newer logitech surround sound system to set up, however the Surround sound only has the option for Coaxial Cable and Optical. I have a cable to connect the coaxial cable to the TV and I have but it still isn't working. Please tell me what I am doing wrong?!!

  1. You need to split the audio cables out from your sources and connect those to your surround sound receiver.

Some TVs have a stereo out, so you can connect that into your receiver.  You'll only get stereo sound, but it's better than the blown speakers on your TV :-)  You will need to go into the TV's setup menu to turn off the TV's speakers so you can use the stereo output.

For surround sound, you need to use a digital coax cable or an optical/TOSLink cable.  Your device MUST have one of these connections on them to have surround sound.  You cannot mix audio connections and cables.

  2. u need to get rca plugs to go from the tv to the surround receiver, they are color coded so its easy the plug and play. Now depending on how old the tv is, it may not have the rca plugs, or just figure out which one of the video jacks u plugged the coxial into like video 1 or tv, then switch the receiver to that it should work fine
