Setting a Date when you plan to Elope?

I just got engaged 3 weeks ago and my fiance and I have decided to have a private ceremony (with a photographer, the wedding gown, tux and all) at a lake with just us and the pastor. We decided to do this because I have a very small family and we are not close, the only people I can gaurantee coming is my sister and my nephew, and I dont have anyone to walk me down the aisle because my parents are dead. While he has a HUGE family, probably about 200 people to my 2!

Our ceremony is something we can do at anytime with little planning we know it will be sometime next summer but what do we tell the others to ward them off. We do not want to tell anyone about the private ceremony until after it is done, we plan on sending out marriage announcements a couple weeks after the ceremony with a few pictures from the ceremony.

Anywho, my question is what the heck do you tell people who repeatedly ask you if you have set a date.

  1. ha ha. I am feeling your pain, I have been engaged for all of a week and I have heard that question a zillion times already. I just tell people we are going to enjoy being engaged a while and we will start making plans when we are good and ready. just let people you are really in no rush, even if you really are...

  2. Just tell them that you are planning a private elopement, that there will be no public ceremony.  Tell them you will send them pictures, and make sure you have their correct address.

  3. Say we are going to wait a while to set a date and look around, see or options, what can they say to that?
