Question:

Setting the eq on my car subwoofer amp.?

Okay so when i first set my amps eq i didn't really know what was going on. I had been listening to my music and watching the audio editing program i have that lets me know the Hz that are hit the most in my music and i tuned the amp to that frequency. Anyway, the other day i was at my local audio shop talking to the head install guy and he had said that different size subs have different frequency response. Which makes sense. While i was there he tuned the amp to around 80 Hz and said that my subs was happiest there and anywhere else wouldn't sound as good.

My subs are Alpine Type R's 10 inch and have a frequency response between 26-600 Hz.

Is there really a "happy" setting for different size subwoofers or will anywhere within the frequency response be good?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Absolutely there is a sweet spot but not only does it very from sub, to sub size, but also to cabin volume, wave path, and reflection.you should have a few k***s on the side of your amp the most common being.

GAIN=which you seem to have covered

LPF(low pass filter)=which prevents the sub from playing any frequencies above its set point. it cant jus cut the sub at the exact freq. so it has a slope rated in db per octave

SLOPE=most often 6db, 12db. 24 db, sometimes 36db. That means for every octave above the LPF it will lower the output by 6, 12, 24, or 36 db per octave.

BASS BOOST=The amount of boost you want in db this should be called "bandade for a crappy stero boost" set to your hearts desire but i never use them.

But in order to answer your question properly i would need to know what setting he tuned to 80 hz if its the LPF ide say tou could go a bit higher and get a little more high end extension your music style will also affect the answer rock=Raise LPF to 100hz Rap=leave alone.
