  1. This data is provided by buying a service manual for the model and year of the PWC you own.  No do-it-yourself work on the engines or electrical system should be done without it.

As proper precaution, you should have taken it to a PWC service shop to have it inspected before you taken the owner's word.  Never go on the owner's word alone, make sure you verify it.

If the engine block is cracked, compression is shot, or electrical system is messed up, you are looking at a very expensive repair bill.  Expensive as in  $1000 to as much as $2800 when its all said and done.

  2. Unless somone has messed with the magneto, the timing will not be off. The stator plate has to be moved to adjust timing, and to do that you have to remove the frony cover, and flywheel then adjust the stator. Even if your timing is off, there still will be spark, just not at the right time.

There are many things which can cause no ignition, such as a bad coil/wire assembly (that is a $110.00 part), plug wires (those can be replaced, not made to be but it is possible, gotta use solid core wires), pulse coil (under flywheel in stator assembly, or the C.D.I. unit (that is a $307.00 part!), or a sheared flywheel key. Even with a sheared key though, the plugs should still spark.

You really need to get a shop manual from Yamaha, then test to find where the problem lies. You could spend a lot of cash throwing parts at it, but they may not fix your trouble.
