Is there any advantage of setting the screen saver??? or screen saver is just for look???

Actually, I have windows xp OS, 128MB RAM...My system is very slow while loading. So I decided not to allow additional unwanted processes to run. I customized my startup programs to improve my system performance. I feel that the Screen saver is an additional overhead. Am I right or wrong, I don't know??? Any suggestions????

  1. screen saver is to make sure the picture does not burn to your screen. does not help save power and is more for the computer too run just turn off monitor not computer the monitor.

  2. I'm amazed your system runs XP at all with that amount of memory!

Screen savers were fairly important when PCs first appeared a few decades back and monitors were based on the cathode ray tube. Then, if you left your computer on for a long time with the same image on the screen, this would get "burned" into the screen. (Basically, the substances on the inside of the tube that glowed and produced the image would be damaged if they were constantly stimulated.)

Screen savers were developed to make sure that, when the computer was not being used, the same pixels were not constantly illuminated.

Screen burn became less of a problem as the years passed and cathode ray tube technology developed. It is not an issue at all with modern LCD monitors.

If you're worried about screen burn and you don't want to stress your computer by running a screen saver (although I think that's unlikely to cause big problems), you can select "Blank" from the list of possible screen savers you get under Monitor Properties. As the title says, this just causes your screen to go black after the period of inactivity you select.

  3. It help's in maintaining the pixel stress of monitor. it helps in crispy view of monitor

  4. A couple of years ago, screen savers were used to prevent icons from  burning in. Now with the modern lcd screens screen savers are not really necessary anymore.

You can use them as decoration, but you do not need them any more.

  5. screen saver is used to..

1- When the screen is left on and unused for long time everyday, the pixels displayed on screen stress some areas more than others.so screen saver protects the screen pixels from "burnt" desktop background.

2- Privacy! it covers whatever on your screen.

3- Nice looking.. f you care about this.

4- Coming back to your desktop is faster than turning the screen back on when it's automatically or manually turned off.

anyway.. screen saver doesn't use much resources (unless you get a heavy screen saver). If you ask me, "blank screen" screen saver is good and light.

  6. The screen saver is worth using if you leave your screen for long periods. It will stop the image of  (ie your desktop) burning into your monitor
