Question:

Setting up a 5.1 channel speaker system on Vista?

I have an Altec Lansing 5.1 channel surround system with subwoofer. I have wired up the speakers to my PC tower and I'm only get sound out of the two rear speakers and the subwoofer. The other three speakers (the two front and the middle) are not working. All I can hear from them is a hissing noise so there is something happening.

I have tried going to the control panel and looking under sound settings but there is nothing there about setting up speakers. There was on my old XP computer. Any ideas?

  1. Audio is controlled by the s/w available with your sound card.

For example, on my PC it is named "Realtek HD Audio manager".

So try to find something similar in the control panel of your PC.

At minimum you should see a "Speakers" control item.
