  1. No need for long answer, two words: BUSINESS LINK:

    http://www.businesslink.gov.uk

Contact them, and get an appointment or visit them.

  2. If you're in the UK, contact your local Business Link and go to one of their free seminars on starting in business.  It takes you through everything involved in setting up and you'll learn what you need to do to have something that you can give her on her birthday.

Remember, though, you don't have a business until you have customers.  So, pick you product or service and work out how you're going to get customers.  Start marketing it and show your Mum that there's something you can both profit from.

Good luck and happy birthday to your mother!

  3. Hi Bec,

It sounds to me like you want to register a company name.  If you do so, you will then be able to hand your mum a Certificate of Incorporation on her birthday.  You can register a company online these days with Companies Made Simple, www.companiesmadesimple.com. I have used them a few times on behalf of my clients.  It is really quite easy and its the cheapest service I have found (£25 approx.).

You can always register the name and then figure out with your mum, what business you are going to start doing together.

    Good luck!
