Setting up new fishpond?

My new fishpond has a timber merbau surround, and after heavy rain the water has become discolored. Will this harm the goldfish?

You need to make sure that run off falls away from the pond, not into it. Toxins are leeching into your pond and yes, that can harm your fish.
