Seu Bock hopes Chong Wei will lead from the front in Thomas Cup Finals – Badminton Update
National Singles coach Tey Seu Bock believes that Lee Chong Wei is back on track after his ailment and he hopes that maestro will lead from the front in Thomas Cup Finals, set to be staged in Wuhan from May 20-27.
The World Number one shuttler decided to take rest due to flu and fever that is why he did not leave with national squad for central training camp in Guangzhou, China as he preferred to do light training under Seu Bock’s supervision.
However, he returned to his normal training yesterday in Bukit Kiara and the coach Seu bock take it as a positive omen for his team as he hoped that now Chong Wei will escort his country to glory.
He said, "Chong Wei missed the whole of last week's training due to fever but he has recovered and went through training without problems. He should be ready to lead the Thomas Cup team in Wuhan next week."
Apart from badminton king, Malaysian squad includes Daren Liew, Hafiz Hashim as Men’s Singles campaigners along with Men’s Doubles teams Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah.
Last time when Malaysia surged into finals was way back in 2002 and this time they are all set to make it least into the semi-finals as they have received relatively easy draw in group stage.
They will open their marathon against South Africa on May 21 and win will take them into quarter-final round of the event.
The coach Seu Bock gave hint that they may give Chong Wei rest against weak African side to avoid over exertion before tough encounter with Denmark.
He said, "We have not decided whether to rest Chong Wei or play him in the match against South Africa on May 21. We will decide after having a team meeting."
Moreover, Seu Bock also hoped that Chong Wei will restore his fitness completely as he has got plenty of time before tough and crucial match against Denmark.
Malaysia will meet Denmark on May 22 and if they win to end group stage as winner they will avoid higher ranked countries like China and Korea in elimination round.
